✝️ Remembering St. Luke

  • Origin: He was born in Antioch, Syria, during the first century.

  • Profession: He worked as a doctor, and the Apostle Paul referred to him as the "beloved physician."

  • Travels: He joined St. Paul on missionary journeys and stayed loyal to him during his imprisonment in Rome.

  • Identity: He was a Gentile convert and was not one of the original twelve apostles.

  • Wrote the Gospel of Luke: This book details the life and teachings of Jesus with a heavy focus on mercy, the poor, and forgiveness.

  • Wrote the Acts of the Apostles: This text records the history and spread of the early Christian church.

  • Impact: Together, his writings make up more than a quarter of the New Testament.

  • Artistic Tradition: Ancient tradition credits him with painting some of the earliest icons of the Virgin Mary.

  • Symbol: His traditional symbol in Christian art is a winged ox.

  • Feast Day: His feast day is celebrated annually on October 18.

Today we are commemorating St. Luke the Evangelist. Though he is only named 3 times in the Bible, his impact on the Christian church is truly massive. We will delve into the ways God used St. Luke to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world this morning!

Therefore you are great, O Sovereign Lord, for there is none like you. There is no God besides you! What we have heard is true.

2 Samuel 7:22
